Birth right chronicles
Aleese Morgan was grimacing in pain as the labor contractions became more pronounced and severe. Robbie, her husband was trying to be helpful but having little effect. The lamaze class had seemed helpful but Robbie felt helpless as yet another violent contraction began. Aleese squeezed Robbie’s hand with the rip of a professional Oyster shucker. The doctor arrived with little fanfare. The nurse announced that Aleese was dilated and ready to deliver. The doctor felt the cervix with nonchalance and announced that the head was properly positioned in the birth canal. He would return in a few moments. The doctor gave the nurse some quick instructions and turned to leave.
Shawnita Johnson was just delivering the afterbirth following the birth of a healthy baby boy. 7lbs. 6 ounces.
In another state Anita Fernandez signed the paperwork following the birth of her son. The child weighed in at 6 lbs. 9ounces.
All of the parents I have just mentioned are part of an experimental child rearing program. Those 3 families along with 97 others had agreed to hand over their children immediately after birth. These 100 new newborns would be taken to a facility especially designed for the care of newborns.
The staff had been screened months ago and they were all prepared to meet their new charges. They would raise these children on equal footing. These infants were from a diverse array of families. Rich, poor, middle class, black, Hispanic, oriental, native Americans, whites. The entire gamut had been included to make the experiment viable.
The crux of the experiment was to see how mentality, prejudices, political view points and personalities might be affected. These children would be monitored from day one with notes on their smallest traits and quirks. These would all be documented. From the time that they first acknowledge sound or grab a finger to when they sit up. This documentation would be carried on to include their first steps, first words and when they are officially potty trained. The real challenge would be to insure that each child get the identical stimuli, encouragement, praise and discipline.
After their 20th birthday the children would be introduced to their natural families. They would never know an abusive parent. These children would never hear references to color or ethnicity. The instruction regarding history would be selective. Slavery, the holocaust and other divisive criteria would be omitted to avoid giving reasons for students to feel self conscious. This regimented upbringing would be akin to the way recruits are given crew cuts and identical uniforms that makes them equal. These children would not know About alcoholism or drug addiction until the last 2 years of their schooling.
During this growth and educational process the individual subjects would be assessed as to their talents and abilities. If one child was seen as having athletic abilities he would be allowed and prodded to pursue the directions of their desires. Mathematics, music, electronics, computer science, sciences language skills, etc.. Whatever they seemed to gravitate towards naturally would be the direction that they would follow. they would be given the knowledge and tools needed to hone their skills in what they were naturally interested in.
By allowing children to use their natural talents, their likes and dislikes as a map of what they might enjoy as productive adults would be a key result of this particular study. It has long been known that if a person enjoys their work that they will be more productive. They will create a better end products and have a much more positive, productive attitude. Attendance, quality and camaraderie will inevitably be better than with an employee who loathes his or her job.
This initial study would be done with only male children. This would eliminate the sexual tension as a contention factor. Future studies were planned for females and co-educational scenarios.
The results pertaining to racial prejudices are important by products of this study. Not having predetermined, taught prejudices could open up the future to a much more cohesive population. History is important but when the information causes us to dislike one another it becomes counter productive. Forming our personalities without poison historical facts will allow us to form opinions without precursors.
